Can Bengal cats be declawed and/or neutered and still win shows?

Blue Bengals

20/01/98. Nädine Hope-Daniel writes...

I've recently purchased 2 blue Bengal kittens and am somewhat confused as to why this colour "is to be discouraged" to quote from your website. I understand that this is a new colour and therefore only on the experimental register, but why the disapproval?

Should I have a pet Bengal in my household?

09/01/98. Andrew Stott writes...

I would like to purchase a Bengal as a partner to our recently bereaved 4 year old tabby girl - she is lonely. Would a Bengal make a good companion to a cat that is used to now ruling the household and also never had her own litter? Also we wouldn't really be keen on showing etc., so would that be considered wrong in purchasing such a sought-after breed?

Falling out after operation

08/01/98. Len Goddard writes...

I have two Bengals which have always been very friendly and affectionate towards one another. However, I have just had them neutered and since I got back from the vet they will not have anything to do with each other - spitting, hissing and growling alarmingly whenever they see one another. Any suggestions for healing this rift would be very much appreciated.

Making friends

23/12/97. Geoff Dorton writes...

About a week ago we purchased our first male Bengal kitten. Two days ago we got another male, exactly the same age. The original cat (Zubin) unfortunately has evidently already staked out our house as his territory, and has been hissing and growling at cat 2 (Mehta) ever since he arrived. Is there anything we can do to change this behavior?

Kitten colour development

28/11/97. Martyn Panes writes...

I have recently acquired a brown spotted Bengal boy who is now coming up to 8 months. I know the fuzzy stage is pretty much over but is there further development in the colouration to come? Does the true potential in terms of rufinism etc. not manifest itself until he is fully grown at about a year?

Toe hunters

26/11/97. Len Goddard from the UK writes...

How do I stop my Bengal from burrowing under the duvet at night hunting for my toes?? He is not vicious, but he can inadvertently inflict painful scratches, especially when it is nearly time to trim his claws. Banning them from the bedroom is an obvious answer but I don't really want to do this as once they settle down there are no further problems.

Silent night?

24/11/97. Teresa Smith from Texas writes...

About 3 weeks ago my Bengal started prowling the house and howling at the top of his voice. He does this mostly in the evenings and at night after we have all gone to bed. We love this cat but this is beginning to drive us crazy due to lack of sleep. Can you give me any ideas as to why this cat has suddenly decided to behave this way? How can we teach him to stop?
