Kookai is an eekamouse
Kookai is a silent Siamese Seal point Cat. Those of you who have Siamese Cats will know how
unusual this is, as Siamese or Meezers are about the most vocal, opinionated cats around.
Kookai has a tiny kitten mew, which she uses as her 'baby voice' when speaking to Claire, who she
classifies as 'mummy'. We know she does this on purpose, because when she is in season she has the
full Siamese call, which she uses to full effect in all its seagull glory. (Siamese cats sound very like
seagulls wailing.) We have builders at work near our house, and they once asked Claire rather
anxiously if she had a left a baby crying at home. She had to show them Kookai crying before they
would believe that a cat could make That Noise!
Kookai has another unusual feature for a Siamese, which is that she is very shy. Siamese cats are
notorious egocentrics, who involve the whole household in pandering to their many whims. Kookai
has whims aplenty, but being so shy and quiet, it took us a while to figure them out! She has definite
loves and hates; she loves Claire, Henry when he’s lying down, Django the red Burmese, Elmo the
Bengal, fluffing up her tail, being brushed (she knows the word 'brush'), most female visitors, lying
on top of a warm fish tank, special kitbits and her squeaker, which she tosses round the house and
retrieves. She loves to sleep with her head resting on Claire’s neck (which Henry hates because it
means that Claire lies on her back and snores!) Sometimes Kookai sits on the pillow watching over
Claire as she sleeps. She loves Henry to turn her over on her back and stroke her tummy in a masterful
manner. She hates people standing up (she hides from them, even Claire or Henry) and Other Cats In
Our Patch (she bravely chases them off).
As you can see from the few available pictures, Kookai spends a lot of time running about and is
difficult to catch in a photo. She always comes to her name when Claire calls her, which
annoys
Henry because she was originally His Cat. This one person attachment is very typical of
Siamese.
In fact Kookai hides in the house a lot just waiting for Claire to call 'Kookai, come on then!' which is
fairly neurotic! She loves Claire very much, and enjoys teasing Henry by Never coming when he calls
her and dancing round out of arm’s reach, flicking her tail. Kookai goes on holiday in the Lake
District with Claire and Henry and Django and Elmo. All the cats follow the Humans in a big tribe
over the moors, where there are no dogs or cars , only sheep and skylarks. The skylarks in nesting
season often decoy the cats away from their eggs with a grand pretence of a broken wing. It amazes
Kookai when these birds fly exultant to safety, just as she thought she nearly had one! The skylarks
are playing a dangerous game, however, as sad to relate, Kookai has killed a budgerigar and a
greenfinch, despite her 'poor me' antics in the house.
Kookai is a member of the Siamese Internet Cat Club, where you can find a lot of information on
Meezers round the world, with many more typical representatives of the breed. Kookai, small and shy,
loyal and eccentric, intelligent and neurotic, is All Siamese in her differences, and all Siamese cats are
Different.
